Wedding Mix

I made an 8tracks mix with a few of the songs we played at our weddings. (art, Damien Hirst)

While guests filtered in, we played the entirety of Davy Graham’s perfect album The Guitar Player. During the reception, we unleashed a monster, four hour playlist of love songs. For the long one, we enlisted the help of our friend David, who has maybe the best taste in music of anyone I’ve ever met (seriously, he’s got a mix for whatever you’re in the mood for). We opted for tracks that were fun and easy on the ears but all stuff we really love- no filler!

I’m sure other rad couples have played good’uns like ‘X Offender’, ‘Lola’, and any number of songs by The Magnetic Fields, but I like to think we’re the only ones who’ve included Graham’s cover of ‘Cry Me A River’… not to be ironic, just ‘cos it sounds so lovely.

  1. Awesome! I would definitely do this if I were getting married – no DJ can pick them better than me! I would have to have ‘Strangers’ by the Kinks, and at least eight more Queen songs, but that’s just me :)

  2. Tonight the Streets Are Ours
    This Will Be Our Year
    Happy Together

Those are all personal favorites of mine and I think you’ve done a great service by playing them in public. Well chosen.

But wait, isn’t “Care of Cell 44” about prison?!

    • Haha, I like to think of it as a long distance relationship! (And not for long since she’s gettin’ paroled.) We threw in a few songs of unrequited love and heartbreak… but they still sound sweet to me.
