If you aren’t familiar with the comic book series (I only recently discovered it thru work), Adèle is a cynical writer/ investigator who solves occult mysteries in belle epoque Paris. Basically, she is fucking fierce. The movie is loosely based on a couple of Tardi’s stories and begins with a pterodactyl egg being hatched through telepathic powers. There are mummies (who speak in French!), wacky disguises, and mad hunters! Dean thought it was “alright” but I liked it a lot. It’s a gorgeous looking film and super fun.
Wicked Dieuleveut (an impressively made-up Mathieu Amalric) makin’ things tough.
Pterror Over Paris!

Tea time with a mummified astrologer
I like that even though her character is hilariously impatient and no nonsense, Adèle likes to unwind with mail in the bath. (Louise Bourgoin is so lovely!) I am dying over this apartment- the striped walls, the floral walls, the unusual artifacts, the deep bathtub. I’ve said it before but this is my dream decor. :)
It looks like a neat movie. I’ll definitely have to check it out.
Hope you like it!
i kept waiting for the magic but it didn’t happen. i hoped it would be a better movie.
I’m an easily pleased viewer but I can see how maybe the campy humor might not suit everyone. The trailer makes it look a little more action heavy and less silly than it is. Personally, I really dug the silliness though. :)
Holy CRAP! I’d the heard the title being bandied about but didn’t know anything about the actual film – now I am determined to seek it out, it looks awesome! Who didn’t want to be a sleuth at some point in their life?
Sigh… I certainly envy her brave spirit and exciting life. I waited over a year to see this on DVD (it wasn’t shown in US theaters) so I was inclined to LOVE it. Hope you do too! :)
