London Loves 7: Waltham Abbey

Dean’s sister, Sherry took us over to Waltham Abbey- it’s relatively close to where their Nan lives and Sherry used to walk her dogs in the church lawn.

The church has been a place of worship since 1030 and is most famous as the supposed burial of King Harold II. What I love best though is the ceiling- which was refurbished and painted with signs of the zodiac in the 19th century. It was impossible to get a proper photo, but inside the church, there’s a mirror that allows you to look at all the zodiac animals without breaking your neck.

There are pieces of wall all over the grounds, remnants of the cloisters.

Sherry and Dean, outside the church. Their expressions are pretty accurate indicators of their personalities- the extrovert, the introvert.
