I’m a cuckoo

…for my new clock! The eyes move when you tilt it (and presumably when it’s wound up). I’m going to try winding it up before re-attaching the chains and brass pine cone but even if it’s a dud, I love it! This cuckoo was made by the Poppo Tezuka co. somewhere between 1945 and 1952 (when all Japanese imports to America had to be labeled ‘Occupied Japan’- kinda snarky if you ask me but I bet collecting imports from this period would be nifty).
I picked this up at an estate sale this morning in Maple Leaf (the neighborhood I work in). Nate and I got there early and found some real treasures: lawn chairs and mini food trays for Nate, the owl cuckoo and a cheese plate for me. I have the morbid hope that when I die, all my beloved finds will be adopted by fellow kitsch fans.
