Little Italy, San Diego

I’ve spent this week battling a cold, feeling tired and hideous so it seemed like a good time to reminisce about our last sunny, summer trip. Back in August, Dean and I flew down to San Diego for my cousin’s wedding (it was a beautiful ceremony on the beach!). We were only in town for 24 hours, our shortest vacation ever, but it was a wonderful trip. This was our afternoon at the Little Italy Mercato Market:

Months later, I am still drooling over the mere memory of this vegan tamale. Sooooo good!

More vegan treats at the Olive Oil Cafe. We ate ours on the steps and people-watched for awhile.

Meeting Rob and his girlfriend Emily for coffee at Influx. Rob and I have been friends since college. Since then, he’s become a video game designer in California. It’s so rad that we’ve been able to meet up a couple times as West Coasters. :)

Coffee and tea, tea and coffee.

  1. Have you had the tamales they serve at the farmer’s market on Capitol Hill? Those are my favorite…although I can’t specifically recall if they were vegan or just vegetarian.

    • I haven’t but I will check that out! I always feel like I’m being unfaithful to the Frank’s Produce stall at Pike Place when I visit the Capitol Hill market but I cannot resist the lure of street stand tamales. Thanks!

  2. These photos are a wonderful dash of color and sunshine on this grey Seattle day. Oh my gosh, I hope you didn’t catch that lingering sore throat/head cold/cough thing going around (I had it for 4 weeks, ugh.) and feel better soon!

    • Thanks! I can’t help but wistfully look back on summer when winter hits Seattle. What the heck is this cold going around? It’s brutal and seems to linger in the system for far too long. I’m sorry to hear you were sick for so long!

  3. What a feast for the eyes!! I hope you didn’t get that icky cold homebody is talking about, I’ve had it for over a month now, it’s finally tapering off. Like your mama probably told you, lots of liquids and bed rest, chicken soup is good too :) Get well soon!

    • Aw, thank you! Yeah, I caught a pretty nasty cold/cough this week but I’m already feeling better than I did a couple days ago. Hope you avoid whatever’s going around!
